Are You Considering a Hair Transplant?

Are You Considering a Hair Transplant?
Hair transplant procedures have gained a lot of sophistication in the past couple of decades. The techniques involved in hair transplant show a great improvement in cosmetic results. What are the options for hair transplant surgeries?

Hair follicle transplant
This procedure involves the removal of tiny patches of hair from more hair dense areas of the head and then the harvesting of the hair follicle which is implanted into a new site where the hair is thin or completely bald. This form of hair transplant, as are all types of hair transplant procedures is usually followed by a continued program of finasteride or minoxidil to prevent the implanted hair from falling victim to the underlying causes of androgenetic alopecia.

Hair flap transplant
In this hair transplant procedure, a flap of skin, including the supporting blood vessels and hair follicles is lifted from a dense growth portion of the scalp and replaced where it is needed. Another similar hair transplant procedure is done with a shallower flap of skin and hair. This is done when the support layer is not in doubt but still requires the microscopic reconnection of blood vessels.

Hair cloning
This is a very new process by which healthy follicles are harvested from the patient and that DNA is used to grow cultures of matching pupa. These hair roots are then implanted in the bald or thin areas. This hair transplant technique is gaining a lot of support and research efforts. Many doctors and scientists feel that it may be the future of hair transplant surgery.

Scalp reduction surgery
In this surgery there is some preparative stretching of the scalp. An incision is done and a plate is inserted under the scalp to stretch the scalp in preparation for the procedure. The surgeon then pulls the more densely haired scalp from the sides or back of the head up to cover the bald portion. This procedure is often accompanied by another form of hair transplant surgery as well so that a good covering is achieved.
