Medicine For Hair Loss
So there’s more hair in your shower drain than
on your head. The shine from your forehead blinds passing
drivers. Well, thanks to modern science you have some
options that may prevent further hair loss and in some
cases may even thicken your locks.
In 1989, the Food and Drug Administration took a bulldozer
to the shelves of hair loss products, which cost men
much but did nothing to sprout new shoots on the dome.
True, men for generations have been swindled by so called
medicines that promised hair like Samson but did nothing
but strip the wallet. Only two medicines remained on
the shelves.
Topical Hair Loss Medicine
Minoxidil in pill form is used to treat high blood pressure,
but in a lotion the drug can save your hair from falling
out. The medicine works by prolonging the growth phase
of the hair follicle. Ordinarily hairs sprout, grow,
and fall out at a constant rate. By prolonging the
growth phase, there are more hairs on the head at a
given time. However, Minoxidil does nothing for follicles
that are not sprouting. The drug must be used consistently,
and only 20% of men see results according to The Journal
of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Hair Loss Medicine in Pill Form
The other medicine that battles this burden of aging
contains Finasteride. Finasteride was originally a
drug used to fight prostate enlargement. It reduces
the production of DHT, a form of testosterone that’s
one culprit behind hair sprouting on your ears and
inching off your head. Finasteride requires continual
use, and has a side effect of reducing libido in two
percent of users.
